Got STUFF?  The WLSSD Materials Recovery Center can help!  It's a facility where residents can get rid of many types of wastes.  It's their goal to reuse, recycle or recover as much material as possible, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The MRC accepts a variety of wastes and recyclables from area residents and businesses for a small fee.  Need STUFF?  The MRC is open for "shopping" on Saturdays, and has a variety of items from appliances to furniture to construction material available for reuse.

Have you started to think about spring cleaning yet?  If so, make sure you check out Freecycle.org.  It's a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills while building a sense of community.  Duluth MN Freecycle(TM) is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself!  Everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages.
Stay tuned this week for more spring cleaning resources!
Proctor Warming House 04/15/2011
Search Engine Friendly URL: http://www.hartels-dbj.com/news_20110415_7020/proctor-warming-house/
We would like to share a community project that we were proud to be a part of.  Have you seen the new warming house in Proctor at the public rink on Hwy 2?  It was donated by Hartel's/ DBJ Disposal.  We took a shipping container and modified it in our fabrication shop.  We were happy to help out with this, as were many other businesses in our community. The rink is primarily used by the youth of our area which is why we were excited to take part in this project.

Recycling Center 04/14/2011

Ever wonder where recyclable items end up?  They come to our state-of-the-art Recycling Center right here in Proctor.  We process 36 tons of material every day at our Recycling Center. Can you imagine the amount of landfill space our customers would use if you didn't recycle? As measured by weight, those 36 tons a day break down to about 75% paper, 16% glass, 6% plastic, and approximately 3% Tin /Aluminum.  At Hartel's / DBJ, we take recycling seriously. Any effort our customers make to recycle is a statement that you want the items you put into your cart to actually be recycled and support a healthy environment. We are able to keep many items local, reusing what you've recycled.
We're always in search of local Minnesota companies that are in business making new products out of the recyclables we collect and sort. That reduces the overall carbon footprint for those items - less vehicle travel, less carbon released.
Styrofoam Goes in the Trash 04/11/2011

We've been hearing lots of questions lately about recycling Styrofoam.  Some of these items have the recycle symbol at the bottom, however, our recycling center cannot process these types of items.  Please place any Styrofoam items in your trash, not your recycling bin.  For more answers to your recycling questions, please visit our Recycling FAQ page.  Thanks for helping us to be more efficient!
We Love Positive Feedback! 04/07/2011

We received another nice note the other day from one of our valued customers!
Andrea R. from Duluth said, "I just wanted to take the time to let you know what great drivers you have on our route.  This winter there have been many extremely windy days where I have noticed some of our garbage and our neighbor's blowing around, when I'm up feeding our baby in the very early morning hours, and when we get up the stray garbage has been picked up.  We one day forgot to put out our recycling and the driver even pulled it up for us from next to the house.  This is the kind of service that will keep us as customers for years to come.  The specific drivers on our route have gone above and beyond our expectations.  A special thank you to those drivers!  They certainly deserve some recognition!"
We love great feedback!  You can always let us know how we're doing by sending a message here.
